The TSG Geo Helmet

Reshaping the sphere of head protection

TSG Geo: The bike helmet for urban design lovers!

I. Introducing a revolutionary new look in urban bike helmets

Our brand-new Geo is a first in urban bike helmet design. We sketched the helmet in collaboration with Dr. Holger Hoffmann, the founder of Berlin-based paper art company, Papertrophy. Its angular silhouette references the defining geometric forms of Papertrophy’s award-winning creations, producing an urban bike helmet that it is safe as it is design savvy.

The Geo reshapes the sphere of head protection with its polygonal silhouette.

The Geo’s In-Mold construction incorporates a ten hole ventilation system for ultimate climate control plus Dial-Fit system adjustability and removable sizing inserts that provide hassle-free customizable fit and comfort. A removable LED rear light and reflective detailing add to the GEO’s visibility on the road, making this the ultimate cool two-wheeler’s head protection for city riders.

Initiated by our late CEO and product developer Ruedi Herger, we had the idea of an angular helmet design in our heads for a while but couldn’t bring it to life on our own. So when we discovered Papertrophy’s creations, we immediately got in touch with Holger to collaborate in the creation of this unique looking helmet.

“In my opinion, the result is amazing!”

stated Ruedi after we received the first samples.

II. Minimalist polygonal structure creating a noble surface texture

Papertrophy was founded in Berlin, in 2015, by Dr. Holger Hoffmann and makes paper animal trophies, that are delivered as pre-cut and pre-folded kits. The buyer then glues them together to make their own deer, elephant or rhinos, staying true to the company motto: “don’t shoot them – glue them”. The products’ look is inspired by old-fashioned animal trophies, but transformed into timeless animal-friendly form, with their minimalist polygonal structure creating a noble surface texture.

Papertrophy & TSG Geo Helmet cooperation

The Geo helmet and Papertrohy share the same minimalist polygonal structure.

Papertrophy has been awarded a host of international awards for its design, including the iFDesign Award 2016 and the German Design Award 2017.

And TSG are so excited to bring this design pedigree to the streets in the form of the Geo. This unique urban cycling helmet is certified to CE EN 1078 and CPSC specifications and is a key product in the 2022 summer collection.

Cooperation with the professional association for snowboarding in Germany

Snowboard Germany

Supporting their Junior Freestyle Tour and Junior National Team

TSG has cooperated with Snowboard Germany for several years and is happy to support their Junior Freestyle Tour and to be the safety gear supplier for their Junior National Team.

The Junior Freestyle Tour (JFT) is the biggest freestyle snowboarding contest series in Germany and is looking for the best up-and-coming park shredders.

The idea is to learn new tricks, exchange ideas and gain contest experience. An essential part of the JFT are the Coaching Days including photo sessions. Together with experienced coaches from local clubs and Snowboard Germany, the riders can get together in the park and work on their skills for the following contests that are divided into the age groups U12, U15 and Open. The best riders can win cool prizes as well as points for the JFT overall ranking and the international World Snowboard Tour. No wonder the JFT has become the stomping ground for all young freestyle snowboarders in Germany!

“We are proud to help Snowboard Germany develop their young guns at various levels.”

Snowboard Germany’s Junior National Team has proved very successful in previous years bringing up riders such as Leon Vockensperger, Annika Morgan, André Hoeflich, TSG’s Leilani Ettel, or Johannes Hoepfl.

Schneestern has been building progressive winter and summer parks since 1999 and knows a lot about balancing fun and progression with safety. “As a company in the action sport industry, we are well aware of the risk these sports involve”, they state. “And we see it as our duty to safeguard the users of the parks we design and protect our construction crews and shapers – our most valuable asset – who build them.”

With their lightweight, low-profile hardshell design and customisable fit, the Gravity helmet for winter and the Evolution helmet for biking and skateboarding are the perfect protection for the Schneestern crews and at least now they have an excuse to be testing their own builds.

From massive snow projects that include the slopestyle course at the Pyoenchang Olympics to the Oberhof Bike Park, Urban Sports Park Salem and all obstacles beyond TSG has got the Schneestern crews covered!

BMX team roster just went golden

Marin Rantes, Declan Brooks and Daniel Dhers now ride TSG

We are super excited to announce the addition of three brand new BMX riders, Marin Rantes (CRO), Declan Brooks (GBR) and Daniel Dhers (VEN) to our Global BMX Team.

TSG’s BMX global team roster just went golden with the inclusion of three of the disciplines brightest and boldest stars: Croatian 2021 UCI World Championship winner Marin Rantes; UK’s Tokyo BMX Freestyle Bronze medallist Declan Brooks; and the legendary Venezuelan master of freestyle and park and winner of Silver at the Tokyo Games, Daniel Dhers.

We are really proud of all the squads who ride TSG protection

I. Best BMX team ever

They join veteran team members Daniel “the flying Dutchman” Wedemeijer, a medal winning local of the Area51Skatepark and coach to the future stars of Dutch BMX; Australian star of the Vans flicks, Illustrated and Welcome to Cult and 2019 Vans BMX Pro Cup world Champion Jason Watts; Olympian and UCI, national and NASS multi-medal winning German freestyler, Lara Lessmann; Vans Pro Cup winner, and arguably the best female bowl rider in the world, Teresa Fernandez-Miranda; Anthony Jeanjean, an Olympian, European Champion and French Champion; and the newest recruit to the squad, and one of the most respected bowl and park riders on the planet Paul Thoelen.

Not the sort of team you would want to challenge in a game of quick fire tricks.

“We are really proud of all the squads who ride TSG protection,” says TSG founder and CEO Ruedi Herger, “but especially of our newly fired up BMX crew. Marin, Declan and Daniel will bring so much raw talent, dynamism and pure fun to what is already a solid crew of rippers and they are going to test our protection kit to its limits wherever they ride.”

II. Daniel decided for TSG even before he signed up

“I’m psyched to be biking for a brand I’ve looked up to since I was a kid,” says legendary BMX star Daniel Dhers. Daniel won the Silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, rocking the Meta helmet before he had even signed up to the team. Daniel is no stranger to the podium, with 5 gold XGames medals, the first ever FISE World Series Championship gold and medals from the Baltic Games and UCI circuit.

III. Marin is stoked to join the TSG BMX family

Croatian rider Marin Rantes is also amped to be shredding under the gold standard protection of TSG: “TSG are like family,” he glows after joining up. “And they make the most comfy helmets and pads.” Marin first made a name for himself when his arsenal of whips, flips and spins earned him the title of best BMX rider in Croatia and since then he’s won a host of titles, including gold at the 2018 UCI World Cup and 2021 UCI World Championships. No surprise then that he’s pegged as one of the best freestyle BMXers in the world.

IV. Declan has never felt safer than with his new TSG helmet

Rocking the Dawn helmet and hailing from Portsmouth, in the UK, Declan Brooks is the last – but certainly not least – additive to the team, and joins sporting a shiny new bronze medal from the BMX Freestyle contest at the Tokyo Olympics. “I’m super stoked to have been put on the most prestigious protection brand in the actions sports world,” declares Declan. “And I’m looking forward to working with TSG for many years to come.” With a bronze at the European BMX Championships, in Valmiera and silver in the Freestyle World Cup in 2019, Declan now has his sights trained on the Paris Olympics, so if you want to see some world-class trickery head down to his home spot, Adrenaline Alley.

Three-year harvest captured with state-of-the-art filming equipment

In a time of 12 second Instagram Reels and disposable TikTok clips, all shot on devices that fit in your pocket, DRIVEN bears the fruits of a three-year harvest captured with state-of-the-art filming equipment, deployed by some of the most experienced professionals in the business.

This is a film about what drives these four men to snowboard.

And this movie will definitely drive you to go snowboarding!

DRIVEN follows these four powder hounds across America, Austria, Canada, Japan and Kamchatka. The crew spent one month in each location to maximise potential, while minimising their carbon footprint.

The most unique locations around the world

Pro snowboarders are lucky enough to visit places that many can only dream of. And DRIVEN transports viewers to far-out corners of the world they may not otherwise get to experience. From the steep, snow-capped pillows of British Columbia to the ash scorched slopes of Kamchatka’s volcanic mountains which overlook the Pacific Ocean. Visiting far flung places to go snowboarding elevates the risk factor. And so working with a tight knit crew is essential, which forms life-long bonds.

DRIVEN explores the camaraderie formed by such bonds. It shows the different ways our four heroes decompress, motivate and thrive together. But what is a rider’s biggest concern making a movie over three years? “Seeing if our riding and work from three years ago would stand the test of time and stay relevant,” puzzles Gigi Rüf.

Getting to know Aimee Fuller

Interview with the Olympic slopestyle snowboarder

Olympian and polymath of action sports Aimee Fuller is the latest recruit to the TSG team, representing our helmets and protection on her boards, bike and wherever else she might be sending it.

words & photos DANNY BURROWS

SEPTEMBER 24, 2021

Olympic slopestyle snowboarder and proud owner of the title “first woman to stick a double in competition” Aimee Fuller is the latest recruit to the TSG team, and is now an ambassador for our helmets and protection. She is a true polymath of action sports, who kicked off her life of rushes on skis and a MX bike and progressed into snowboarding on the sunny climbs of Bromley dry ski slope.

Aimee Fuller

With two cracks at the Olympics and a host of podium trinkets under her belt she has now added being a Yoga teacher to her accolades and is wetting her toes in the world of TV presenting. So when we caught up with her in June, 2021, and she was about to foil board down the river Thames we were not at all surprised…

It sounds like your love of action sports started at a young age: Can you describe your experience before you found snowboarding? Did you come from a sporty family?

I did. So, I started skiing on the dry slope at the age of four, in Bromley. At the same time, my dad bought a quad bike for the back garden but it wasn’t fast enough to keep up with the boys at the track so he traded it in for a 50cc motorbike when I was 6. The combo of gymnastics, and reading lines and transitions of a motocross track really helped.

What was the scene like on Bromley Dry Slope? What was it that convinced you that snowboarding was your next trick?

I remember seeing a snowboarder go from the top of the dry slope to the bottom, aired over the roller, and I remember thinking it looked fun and wanted to try it. At the time, they didn’t have snowboards small enough so I first tried it when I was eight on a trip to visit my cousins in Canada.
Bromley Dry Slope had an ace vibe, it was a supportive community club and some decent skiers came out of there. When I was 12 I moved to the USA and lived there for three and a half years. We snowboarded at Whitetail with friends from school and this is where my passion for the sport really developed. I loved the freedom, the blank canvas for creativity.

Aimee Fuller with snowboard

There are no mountains in the UK, so Aimee started skiing at Bromley Dry Slope.

Aimee Fuller with snowboard

What is the story with Mt. Hood, your sixteenth birthday and the legend Erin Comstock?

I went to Mt. Hood for my 16th birthday, right before we moved back to the UK. It was literally the dream, a snowboarding camp for a whole week in the summer, and I was coached by Erin Comstock. I idolised her, and even went and bought the same clothes as her from Roxy after the camp! She recommended me to Roxy as she was impressed with my riding. Post Mt Hood, I started school back in the UK and thought my dreams of snowboarding regularly where over. But it was then that I had the magic phone call from the Roxy European Team manager, all thanks to Erin. It changed my life!

Your first wins at Pleasure Jam must have been a massive boost? Did you have an end goal in your mind at this time?

Ah, Pleasure Jam! The glory days, I loved that course, and I had a lot of confidence there. I’ll never forget my first winning run which became a staple in my Olympic qualifying. Cab underflip, back 7, back rodeo. To win back to back, 2 years on the trot, at the start of the season, always gave me a huge boost going into winter.

Aimee Fuller skateboarding

You have been to the Olympics twice now – can you describe the experience of competing in one of the most watched sporting events in the world?

It’s surreal. At the start it feels like any other contest, you’re still competing and riding with your mates you’ve been touring with on the circuit for years. However, it is different; it puts our sport on the world stage, and the impact it can have on the sport and on your life is huge. It’s the biggest sporting event in the world and to be a part of it and be a part of your National team, wearing the flag, is truly special.

Can you describe the process you went through to land the double?

I remember thinking, one is easy so the only way forward is two. I knew it hadn’t been done in competition, so I was on my own little mission to make my mark in the history books of snowboarding. Looking back at it now, I sometimes think, I should have spent more time going upside down twice. It was a bit wild though!

Aimee Fuller wakesurfing

Whatever board Aimee puts under her feet, she rocks it!

What are goals for snowboarding in the next five years?

Enjoy the mountains through different mediums and I am really excited to explore different terrain on a splitboard, for that cardio rush and the reward of earning your turns. Plus riding powder is the best feeling in the world!

Like all snowboarders you’ve taken your fair share of slams – what protective gear do you recommend riders to wear on the hill?

Always a helmet. It’s a no brainer. The Vertice is my first choice, as it is lightweight, and moulds to my head perfectly. Feeling like a part of me, it gives me confidence on the mountain, whether I’m having fun in the park with my mates, or exploring backcountry terrain.

Aimee currently uses the following TSG helmets:

What does a sponsorship deal with TSG, from the perspective of protection, bring to your multi-sport lifestyle?

For me to know my head and my body is covered when I push myself to new limits across disciplines gives me the confidence I need when exploring uncharted territory! It’s an honour to work with a brand that is steeped in the history of protection. Knowing that I am working with the best, makes me perform my best and makes me feel safe. Protection allows me to focus on the fun stuff, which is creative freedom in my performance.

Do you have any advice for snowboarders who want to push their limits riding to the point of turning pro?

My biggest advice would be to enjoy it. It goes fast, focus on the now, and enjoy the ride. Don’t neglect the small details, ride switch, ride in bad conditions and have fun.

Aimee Fuller

And finally, what are your plans for the coming season.

My plans are to ride some backcountry, host a yoga snowboarding retreat to share my love of riding and movement and hopefully head out to work on the Olympic Games! It’s coming round fast!

Every Day Is A Good Day To Have A Bike Day

Timo’s therapy tip: grab your bike!

Feeling grumpy or being in a bad mood from your everyday duties? TSG’s BMX and mountain biking legend Timo Pritzel recommends to grab your bike, because every day is a good day to ride a bike!

photos & video – HANS FRIEDRICH

SEPTBEMER 10, 2021

Bad-tempered from too much paperwork, daily dramas or global negative news? No doubt we’ve all been there, but Timo Pritzel has found a solution for himself:

Grab your bike!

YouTube player

Timo is a BMX and mountain biking legend and also a yoga teacher. He thinks:

Every day is a good day to ride a bike!

For Timos mountain biking is as a form of mediation:

“The monkey in your head can finally shut up. You live in the moment. And only that counts. Keep an eye on every stone and root during your ride and breathe deeply and consciously. Don’t be afraid to keep reminding yourself of this.

Dirt Biker Timo Pritzel jumping over kickers.

“Use the valuable time and nature around you to clear your mind and to actively experience your life.”

“But be careful, you can also use sport the wrong way! Don’t turn your ride into a stressful battle round in the forest without seeing nature and without taking the time to really be in the moment. After the ride, treat yourself with some stretching or just look into the horizon and be grateful.”

Mountain biker with Kids

“Spending time with kids gets me right into the moment and I forget the time or my to-do list! That is energy and time well used!”

Timo points out that it is also great to spend time with kids and be there in the moment 100%, not checking emails or messages in between. And if you can combine both biking and spending time with kids and sharing your joy it gets even better.

After a bike ride, most of the problems feel lighter

“It just feels so much better to have your lungs free and breathe deeply after a bike ride in nature than to cramp your shoulders and neck and scroll on your cell phone,” says Timo.

Every day is a good day to have a bike day

Free your lungs and breathe deeply! Biking helps Timo to calm down and take it easy.

“Especially when you have an inner storm that is raging, it is important to take your time! After a bike ride, most of the problems are suddenly no longer that bad or you can look at them differently and find solutions.

So don’t wait for you to have a vacation at some point and ride the perfect A-Line in Whistler, but use the valuable time and nature around you to clear your mind – and to actively experience your life.”

We think Timo is totally right!

Every day is a good day to have a bike day.

No more excuses.

The Rise of The Sentinel

Next Level DH Mountain Bike Helmet Design with Stephane Dion

We are super stoked to announce the release of our new mountain bike full-face helmet. Want to know how the design came about? Product designer Stephane reveals everything here.

AUGUST 4, 2021

The Sentinel is TSG’s newest full-face helmet, built for next level downhill mountain biking and jump sessions. Sleek, super vented and offering maximum protection in all conditions it was created in collaboration with one of the industries most legendary designers, Stephane Dion.

So who better to share the helmet’s back story than Stephane himself.

Stephane Dion Helmet Designer

The designer in his working environment.

I. The Helmet Guy

Stephane’s relationship with TSG was a coincidence, starting with a chance exchange of ideas at the 2019 Milan Motorcycle Expo about a DH skate helmet. “We left it there,” explains Stephane, one of the most experienced helmet designers in the industry”, and only talked again as the pandemic was taking hold of the world about a totally new project for a downhill bike helmet.” As the old axiom goes, every cloud has a silver lining, and with Stephane in lockdown and a snowmobile helmet project on ice, he had the opportunity to get busy on what would become TSG’s newest MTB DH helmet, the Sentinel.

I wanted to create a style

that was dynamic

Stephane has been designing helmets for over 25 years but mainly for power sports like snowmobile, street and MX bikes and even skydiving helmets. He is also really into FMX and enduro motorcycles, with one of his sons racing 450 MX and competing in DH mountain bike, he also knows a thing or two about downhill bike helmet design.

Stephane Dion Helmet Designer

Stephane checks the best peak position.

II. Following a typical German Swiss product design philosophy

“First I had to immerse myself in the downhill bike world to see what the competition was up to,” explains Stephane of his process. “TSG have Swiss, German roots so I wanted to create a style that was dynamic and fast looking but also expressed technicality and functionality typical of German and Swiss engineering.”

a typical German Swiss

product design philosophy

One of the key characteristics that the Sentinel should have was durable, “again a typical German Swiss product design philosophy,” Stephane says. “We also needed to get the proportions spot on: The chin bar not to far out; the correct amount of Goggle space in the eye port area; the perfect peak position and collapsible features to help reduce breakage in crashes.”

TSG Sentinel Helmet

Detail view of the front chin bar ventilation.

III. Weight and ventilation are top priority

The helmet would also have to be easy of getting in and out of and hit the set 1150g weight target, as although the ‘pedal to the metal’ part of downhill biking only happens in short spurts a rider ends up wearing their helmet for hours which is a burden on neck. “The weight of the helmet is sitting on the highest point of the body and on hard breaking down steep inclines it takes very little to flip,” adds Stephane. “Every ounce saved helps keep the back wheel on the ground and so the top of priority is weight in every helmet I design.”

Ventilation was also a top priority: “For a helmet with this much coverage the air circulation – even at low speed – has to be on point, so the helmet has an elaborate channelling system with multiple ram air and exhaust vents front side back and top,” Stephane explains.

TSG Sentinel Helmet

Details rear view of the Sentinel Helmet.

IV. Thinking environmental

TSG also had an environmental target to fulfil and therefore an injection shell made from ABS material was decided on, as these materials can be recycled simply by placing them in the correct bin. Also, although the topcoat of an injected shell helmet uses chemicals paints and clear coats by avoiding epoxy primers it saves on processes that are harmful to the environment.

TSG Sentinel Helmet

The outer shell is made of ABS what is less harmful to the environment than fiberglass.

V. The Sentinel ticks all the boxes

Stephane describes himself as a “the helmet guy”, who at 53 years old still practices helmet design in an old school way. In his own words he takes responsibility for every stage of a helmets design, from concept and styling to production and brings in the best of the best, like in CAD, to help to make the process perfect. Stephane also believes that having a relationship with a factory is a key to the success of his methods: “The Sentinel is in the very capable hands of a small factory who do only high-end quality projects and I have my coffee mug with my name on it hanging there with the rest of the employees.”

TSG Sentinel Helmet all 2021 colors

2021 color range of the Sentinel helmet.

To wrap up Stephane says, “TSG wanted to offer a high-end downhill helmet at an affordable price and they have achieved it hands down”. Check out the Sentinel, available in satin black, satin red, satin olive, and satin grey, on the RideTSG.com and at all good bike shops. And the next time you’re pointing a bike downhill, shoot Stephane a virtual high-five for the Sentinel that’s keeping your head in one piece!

Thanks Stephane!

About the Film Tall Poppy

A girl who just loved to skate from the age of eight, Poppy Starr Olsen became the number one female bowl skater in Australia at 14 and went on to take out bronze at the X Games at 17.
