Riding sideways runs thick in Kona Ettel’s blood. Both her parents surf, skate and snowboard and her big sister Leilani, who Kona describes as her role model, is a pro snowboarder and fellow TSG team member: “My family always took me along when they went snowboarding, skateboarding or surfing,” says Kona, whose family now live in Pullach and count Laax their stomping ground for their on-snow shredding. “I tried a lot of other sports and also have a lot of other hobbies but I just love to stand on a board,” she says with glee. Kona was rolling on a skateboard as soon as she could stand and was surfing by the age of 3, when in her words she could “swim properly.” In fact the board she has chosen to compete on was the last she picked up: “I started snowboarding with my family when I was 5 and age 7 decided I wanted to do competitions like my big sister.” She’s now got her sights trained on qualifying for the World Cup and of course the Youth Olympics in South Korea, in 2024. Naturally, TSG is super stoked to have her on the team and to keep her safe and shredding on both snow and concrete in their top-end protective gear. Kona is protected from head to nearly her toes, wearing the Cosma Helmet on her head and Backbone Vest Wmn A and Crashpant A as well as the Arctic Knee 2nd Skin A for Elbows and knees. Together Kona and TSG are having a blast!
