Legs Of Steel “Nothing Else Matters” Official Trailer

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

…And Nothing Else Matters The Legs of Steel crew drops the teaser to their new free ski movie coming this September.

The boys came a long way this winter, after their debut movie “The Pilot”, dedicating their whole season to an exciting new film project. The mixture between the commitment of some of Europe’s finest freeskiers and the high end cinematography of Andre Nutini is sure to turn heads once again.

Filmed with precision on some of the worlds most advanced camera systems, the young crew of friends have certainly been able to showcase their talents.

Join TSG’s Bene Mayr and his crew mates Paddy Graham, Thomas Hlawitschka, Tobi Reindl, Sven Kueenle, Fabio Studer, Max Hill and introducing Lucas and Tobi Mangold as they chase snow in the European Alps till they ski the deep powder in BC. Keep your eye’s peeled for the grand finale, when LOS assembled “the wildest of Europes finest skiers“ under their flag, to create something the world has never seen before!

BENE MAYR LANDS THE FIRST FORWARD DOUBLE MISTY 1080

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

TSG’s freeskier Bene Mayr landed the first forward double misty 1080 while shooting with Legs of Steel on the Kaunertaler Glacier in Austria.

“It’s a new double rotation which has never been done before. I’ve been wanting to do this trick for over a year now and never got a chance. Now that I’ve finally done it I’m really happy about it.”, explains Bene.

The new trick is being called a Trooper. Paddy Graham, Bene’s roommate and a fellow member of Legs of Steel, named it. “He came up to me and was like, ‘Oh, you just landed the Trooper,’” Bene said. “So that’s where the name comes from — I think it’s from an Iron Maiden song.”

In a misty, the skier throws a flip forward off the jump, putting their head down first. This is different from a cork, in which the skier flips backwards into the jump. The Munich-based skier said that he sees more commitment in throwing the trick against the jump rather than the other way.

Bene, who is skiing with a knee injury that has nagged him since the Red Bull Linecatcher in January, said the jump was 24 or 25 meters (about 82 feet) and was constructed as a semi-roller step down.

Nothing Else Matters

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Benedikt Mayr and his LEGS OF STEEL buddies announce their new Project for 2011:

Legs of Steel (LOS) is a ski film crew based out of Innsbruck, Austria, who are currently filming for their 2nd movie entitled ‘Nothing Else Matters’ which is to be released exclusively online in Autumn 2011. In only 2 years LOS are leaving their unique mark on the International Freeski scene, partly thanks to their skiing skills but also because of the chemistry amongst the crew and the ‘band of brothers’ mentality that exists between them.

‘Nothing Else Matters’ follows on from their acclaimed debut offering ‘The Pilot’. It was an enticing glimpse into the skiing and 09/10 exploits of TSG skier Bene Mayr and others. LOS is partly influenced by nostalgia for older ski movies, when heavy metal music and a crash segment were almost obligatory, but the root cause is simply about having as much fun as possible. In this spirit, the new movie will see a number of other comrades joining the LOS crew. You can look forward to seeing amongst others, Sven Kueenle charging lines, Fabio Studer killing it on the jumps and young guns Tobi and Lucas Mangold making their first appearance on an international stage.

LOS now releases the first of 5 webisodes in 2011 with behind the scene footage. The first instalment takes in the backcountry of St Moritz, followed by a kicker session in Davos before heading to the Red Bull Linecatcher event in Vars.

For more information and news about the project, be sure to check out their brand new website at www.legsofsteel.eu

Bene Mayr 2nd at Sweet Rumble

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

Congrats to Bene Mayr for his 2nd place at the Sweet Rumbl in Trysil, Norway last weekend.

After knocking out Markus Eder and Klaus Finne with his slow and stellar looking double cork 10, Bene met Brown in the finals, which was a three-run format where 3 different jumps had to be thrown. Bene, who was going huge all night, attempted to push the envelope even further but failed to stomp his tricks, leaving the door open for Brown, who sailed to victory with another flawless double cork 12.

1st. Bobby Brown (USA)
2nd Bene Mayr (GER)
3rd Jf Houle (CAN)
4th Klaus Finne (NOR)
5th Andreas Hatevite (NOR)
6th Elias Ambuhl (CH)

3rd place for Bene Mayr at King of Style 2010

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

Bene Mayr 3rd at King of StyleBene Mayr just came back from Stockholm and told us about his 3rd place at the King of Style. Congratulation Bene!

Here is a little recap of the event and Bene’s performance:

The organizers had announced one of the biggest city jump ever done with a 19m deck. All the riders were excited about this idea but the jump wasn’t tested before so the first try of TJ Schiller was a bit scary (he landed hard on the deck, 2m before the landing). And after 10 riders, the organizers decided to postponed the quali and re-shape the whole jump.

After a long break, the 17m deck jump was open for practice and everything worked well. The qualification format was really simple, as they had to change the schedule, 2 runs best one count! Only 8 riders, among them Bene Mayr, were qualified for the head to head final with the pre-qualified riders (Sammy Carlson, Simon Dumont, Paul Bergeron, Bobby Brown, Jon Olsson, Kevin Rolland, Andreas Håtveit and Jacob Wester).

For the final, the shaper had made the kicker better and the in run was longer so everyone was stocked on the jump after the first trainings. The audience was big for this final day. The final field was one of the most impressive one with the top 3 of the last X Games Big Air. The weather wasn’t the easiest to handle (rain and wind) but still good enough for the riders to ensure the show!
